Why we need more women in their full Thyroid expression: My Rewilded Functional Approach
Over the years, I've had many conversations, primarily with women, seeking answers to a range of health concerns and looking for a more holistic approach to their well-being. I've noticed common trends in their recommendations, which often lead to confusion or solutions that simply act as a band-aid. A major challenge today is the need to prioritize education and understanding of how our bodies work. I believe in taking a thorough approach rather than seeking quick fixes.
Women being told their thyroid function is not up to par and being given thyroid hormones or thyroid only focused supplements is a great disservice IMO. Why? Because we need more women on this planet in their full embodied self expression. Too many women today are running on empty and functioning from a place of collapse. I believe the thyroid is like a portal, or seen as a gateway that, when functioning optimally, empowers women to embrace their full potential, creativity, and intuition—hallmarks of the divine feminine.
And when a woman has full thyroid expression and function, it really can change the game for her—both in her personal life and how she feels about herself.
For starters, when her mood is stable and she has that boost of energy, she’s so much more present in her relationships. It’s like she has the emotional bandwidth to really connect with friends and family. When you can handle conflicts calmly and communicate openly, everything just flows better!
Plus, that extra energy means she’s more likely to say yes to social outings, try new activities, and just enjoy life more. Imagine going out with friends or diving into a new hobby without feeling exhausted! It makes a huge difference in building those connections.

Consistent energy, maintain a healthy weight more easily, body temperature feels just right and also more easily able to adjust to shifting temperatures (not always running cold), and their skin and hair are usually healthier and more vibrant. Heart rate and blood pressure remain steady, and for women, menstrual cycles are more regular. Overall, a well-functioning thyroid supports strong immune health, aids digestion, and contributes to a general sense of vitality and well-being. It’s like feeling more in tune with your body and better equipped to handle everyday challenges! Mineral balancing can play a key role in healing thyroid dysfunction, and it’s really about understanding how these tiny elements affect our bodies. Think of minerals as essential building blocks that support various functions, including the production of thyroid hormones.
When our mineral levels are out of whack, it can create a ripple effect that impacts the thyroid. How each of the 7 pillars or health foundations helps with full thyroid expression and function
First things first we want to align our bodies more with nature’s rhythms, so we want
tight circadian matching.
Tight circadian matching refers to the synchronization of an individual's daily activities, such as eating and sleeping, with their natural circadian rhythms. This approach emphasizes aligning these activities with the body's internal clock to optimize health and well-being.
For instance, it encourages eating meals during daylight hours and sleeping during the night, which can enhance metabolic processes, improve sleep quality, and support overall physiological functions. Tight circadian matching is increasingly recognized for its potential benefits in managing weight, improving mood, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
So in order to do this we have to start with our light environment
Sunlight & Light
Sunlight plays a crucial role in regulating our circadian rhythms, which are the natural cycles that govern our sleep-wake patterns and various hormonal secretions. When sunlight hits our eyes, it signals our brains to produce hormones like cortisol, which helps us feel awake and alert during the day. However, modern life often introduces artificial lighting, especially blue light from screens. This type of light can trick our brains into thinking it’s still daytime, which can suppress melatonin production and disrupt our circadian rhythms. When our internal clocks are out of sync, it can lead to hormonal imbalances, including those involving the thyroid.
In essence, while sunlight helps keep our circadian rhythms and thyroid functioning optimally, excessive exposure to artificial and blue light can throw everything off balance. It’s a reminder of how closely interconnected our environment and our biology really are!
Taking control of light exposure is a great way to support your thyroid health and overall well-being. Start with how you start your day and how you end your day around light.
Morning Sunlight: Start your day by getting outside for at least 15-30 minutes of natural sunlight. This helps reset your circadian rhythm and boosts your mood. Even on cloudy days, the natural light can still be beneficial.
Limit Blue Light in the Evening: In the hours leading up to bedtime, try to reduce exposure to blue light from screens. You can use blue light filtering apps or glasses, or simply put away your devices at least an hour before sleep.

Water
Proper exposure to natural sunlight and reducing artificial blue light can play a significant role in helping our bodies produce exclusion zone (EZ) water, which is thought to be a more structured form of water beneficial for cellular function.
When we spend time in the sun, especially in the morning or late afternoon, our bodies can harness natural light to stimulate various biological processes. Sunlight exposure helps regulate our circadian rhythms, which are essential for maintaining overall health. This regulation can enhance cellular metabolism and improve the body's ability to create and maintain structured water.
Natural sunlight also provides a spectrum of light, including infrared light, which is believed to energize water molecules in our cells. This interaction may help align water molecules in a more organized structure, thereby promoting the formation of exclusion zone water. This structured water is thought to be more efficient for cellular hydration and function, leading to improved nutrient transport and waste removal.
On the other hand, excessive exposure to artificial blue light, particularly from screens and LED lighting, can disrupt our circadian rhythms and negatively impact our metabolic processes. For instance, many tap waters contain halides like fluoride, chlorine, and bromine. These substances can interfere with the thyroid gland’s ability to produce hormones effectively.

If iodine levels are compromised, it can lead to an imbalance in thyroid function, potentially resulting in conditions like hypothyroidism. It's way more beneficial to take a comprehensive approach that includes lifestyle and environmental factors FIRST as well as alongside any medical treatment a person is working with.
Air & Breath
Airway function is all about how well our air passages work to help us breathe. It involves everything from our nose and throat to our lungs. When things are working smoothly, we can take in air easily, exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide in our blood, and keep our lungs clear of any harmful particles.
Now, you might be wondering why this is such a prevalent issue today. Well, in modern life, we’re faced with a lot of factors that can negatively impact our airway function. For one, air pollution is a big concern. With more cars on the road, industrial activities, and even indoor pollutants, we're exposed to a lot of irritants that can cause inflammation and blockages in our airways.
Additionally, lifestyle changes, like increased sedentary behavior and poor diet, can contribute to respiratory issues. Conditions like asthma and allergies have also become more common, often triggered by environmental factors. Plus, many people are dealing with stress, which can lead to shallow breathing and other issues that affect how our airways function.
So, while we might not always think about our airways, their health is crucial, especially in today’s world where so many things can interfere with our ability to breathe easily.
So, when we talk about how airway function relates to thyroid expression, it's interesting to see how these two systems can indirectly influence each other.
For starters, good airway function is crucial because it ensures that our body gets enough oxygen. This oxygen is important not just for our lungs but also for the thyroid gland, which needs it for hormone production. If the airways aren’t functioning well, it can affect how well the thyroid operates.
Then there’s the role of thyroid hormones themselves. They’re key players in regulating metabolism, which includes how our body uses oxygen and energy. So, if someone has respiratory issues, it might lead to changes in their overall metabolism, which can, in turn, impact thyroid function.
Also, we can’t ignore the role of inflammation. Conditions like asthma or COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) chronic lung conditions characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. I was told I had both chronic bronchitis and asthma in my middle school years of which I suffered with for 20 years which impacted how I was able to be myself. BOTH can cause inflammation that might affect the thyroid, especially in autoimmune cases.
So, there’s this complex interplay where airway health can influence thyroid health and vice versa. And there can be a lot to unpack with this one for each person - so gentle breathing practices nasal irrigation cleaning up your indoor air environment can be good starts as well as adopting a holistic lifestyle approach through all 7 pillars
Movement : Lymphatic Flow : Drainage

When we engage in physical activity, our muscles contract and stimulate circulation, which enhances blood flow throughout the body. This increased circulation helps deliver essential nutrients and hormones to the thyroid gland, allowing it to function more effectively.
Additionally, the lymphatic system, which is responsible for removing toxins and waste products, benefits from movement as well. Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system doesn't have a pump; it relies on the contraction of muscles and movement to help circulate lymph fluid. When this fluid flows freely, it aids in detoxifying the body and can reduce inflammation, both of which are crucial for maintaining a healthy thyroid.
So, when we incorporate regular movement into our daily routine—whether it's through exercise, walking, or even stretching—we're not just benefiting our muscles and joints; we're also supporting our thyroid health. This holistic approach can help mitigate the risk of symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, or mood swings that often accompany thyroid issues.
